Thousands of Souls Caught Between Hope and Waiting
Inside the halls of Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, dozens of stranded Yemenis wait under harsh conditions, deprived of returning to their homeland and families due to the Israeli aggression that rendered Sana'a International Airport inoperable.
While their hearts longed to return to Yemen, their hopes remain suspended with every passing minute, as they await flights halted by the massive destruction inflicted on Sana'a Airport.
A Tragedy on the Ground, Shattered Stories of Hope
In the corridors of the airport, the stranded share painful stories—divided families, individuals on the verge of reuniting with their loved ones after years abroad, and others preparing to return home after long medical treatments. All of them, overnight, became victims of a war far removed from them, trapped between waiting and the unknown.
After Israeli airstrikes completely destroyed the infrastructure of Sana'a Airport, it became incapable of receiving any flights. This left thousands of Yemeni travelers returning from various countries stranded in foreign lands.
The total suspension of flights came as a shock to many passengers who suddenly found themselves unable to return to their families. As chaos and overcrowding overtook Amman Airport, all eyes longed for the moment they could return to their homeland.
“We’re here without any answers” — a phrase repeated by most of the stranded Yemenis in Amman Airport.
Their hopes of returning and reuniting with loved ones clash with obstacles beyond their control. All they have is hope—hope that Sana'a Airport might operate again, even without buildings and terminals—just to get home.
The stranded face major challenges: overcrowding, lack of healthcare, and difficulty finding accommodation inside the airport.
Amid this suffocating humanitarian crisis, the stranded Yemenis call on both the governments of Sana’a and Aden, along with international organizations, to urgently intervene and find immediate humanitarian solutions to ensure their safe return to Yemen.
Returning home remains the only dream in the hearts of every one of those stranded in Amman Airport.
Despite the suffering and harsh conditions, hope endures that Sana’a Airport will come back to life—and that they will soon return to their homes.
