Sana'a continued its humanitarian initiative on the prisoner issue by releasing a new batch, reflecting its commitment to resolving one of the most critical humanitarian files.
On Saturday, the Sana'a government released a new batch of prisoners, including 153 individuals who had fought alongside the Saudi- and UAE-led coalition. This step aims to build trust, foster understanding between the concerned parties, and push the political process toward a comprehensive and sustainable solution.
This unilateral initiative was undertaken to advance the prisoner file, which Sana'a described as facing obstinacy from the other side.
The head of the National Committee for Prisoner Affairs in Sana'a, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, stated that this move is part of the humanitarian initiatives presented by Sana'a over the past years.
He emphasized that Sana'a has been making significant efforts to break the deadlock in this sensitive file, urging the other party to address the prisoner and detainee issue purely from a humanitarian perspective, away from political considerations.
Al-Murtada pointed out that the other side has not presented any similar initiatives but continues arbitrary arrests of traveling citizens based on regional and sectarian grounds. He also accused the coalition of obstructing the implementation of the "all-for-all" initiative, which had been previously agreed upon, affirming Sana'a's readiness to implement it.
He added that the Saudi and Emirati regimes are involved in the abduction and detention of numerous Yemeni citizens, both within Yemen and during their stay or travel through coalition countries.
He reiterated that there are hundreds of prisoners being concealed by the other side, preventing communication with them, accusing the Islah Party in Marib of blocking International Committee of the Red Cross visits to prisoners in its prisons.
He noted that Sana'a had previously released more than 10,000 prisoners from the other side through local mediations, demonstrating its commitment to the humanitarian file.
Once again, Sana'a proves its dedication to the humanitarian cause, while the other side continues to obstruct efforts and exacerbate the suffering of prisoners and their families.
With this new initiative, Sana'a places the ball in the other side's court, urging them to set aside political calculations and take similar steps to alleviate the suffering of thousands of prisoners and detainees.
