Insan Organization expresses its astonishment at the international community, the United Nations, and the Security Council not taking a stance towards these acts of crime against humanitarian workers

Arrests | 29-08-2023

Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms followed up on what was published by Doctors Without Borders international organization regarding the loss of contact with two of its employees (one holding the German citizenship, and another from Myanmar) in Marib governorate which is under the control of the Maeen Abdulmalik government and the authority of the Islah Party, on Monday August 28, 2023

Insan organization closely monitors the recurrence of such acts, which have been currently on the rise in areas under the control of the so-called “Presidential Council” where security chaos prevails. This incedent comes approximately two weeks after the United Nations announced the release of five of its employees who had been held captive for 18 months by Al-Qaeda militants in Abyan Governorate.

Insan organization emphasizes that the persistence of such crimes in areas under the control of the so called “legitimate government”; and the resulting support and rearrangments of terrorist members through ransoms provided to them under the pretext of releasing kidnapped individuals, serve as a strong motive for these organizations to continue their acts of crime. Insan organization sees that if these actions persist, they may not only pose a local threat but also escalate into a serious security threat at regional and international levels.

Insan Organization expresses its astonishment at the international community, the United Nations, and the Security Council not taking a stance towards these acts of crime against humanitarian workers, of which the most recent being the crime of the murdering of the Director of the World Food Program in Taiz Governorate on July 21, 2023.

Insan organization urgently calls upon the international community, the United Nations, and the Security Council to adopt a serious and resolute stance against such acts of crime targeting humanitarian workers; and to pressure the de facto authorities in those areas to ensure the prosecution of the perpetrators of these crimes, as well as the ones responsible and financiers of these actions that do not represent the values, principles, and morals of the Yemeni people, but only the perpetrators of these actions.
