A French media outlet revealed in the past hours a new incident involving the spraying of herbicides over agricultural lands in southern Syria by Israeli occupation aircraft, causing the destruction of vast areas of crops and inflicting significant losses on local farmers.
France 24 reported that Israeli aircraft carried out chemical spraying operations over Syrian agricultural lands in Quneitra Governorate during January and February 2026. The spraying took place near the buffer zone separating Syria from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, resulting in the damage of large areas of farmland.
The report cited testimonies from local farmers who said their crops turned yellow within a few days of the spraying operations before being completely destroyed. Local agricultural authorities also reported that hundreds of hectares were affected, including fruit orchards.
According to the report, an analysis of satellite images conducted by the organization PAX showed that the spraying operations extended along approximately 55 kilometers of the border strip, damaging an area estimated between 6 and 10 square kilometers of agricultural land.
According to the organization’s analyst Wim Zwijnenburg, these operations effectively contribute to the creation of what he described as a “dead zone” by destroying vegetation and agricultural land.
