The Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms expresses deep concern over the U.S.-Israeli attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran and southern Lebanon, and the accompanying unprecedented massacres committed against civilians in both countries, resulting in hundreds of martyrs and wounded in residential neighborhoods and civilian areas, most of them children and women.
This unjustified attack constitutes a flagrant violation of international laws and norms, and a clear breach of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use or threat of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and obliges all parties to respect the rules of international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality.
The organization warns that the silence of the international community, and its failure to take serious and effective measures to halt this aggression, could open the door to an expansion of the conflict and its transformation into a comprehensive regional confrontation, the consequences of which would be borne by the security and stability of the region, and whose repercussions could extend to the entire world.
The organization also affirms that the actions undertaken by the United States and the Israeli occupation will have serious repercussions on the global economy, the security of states, and the stability of peoples, in light of the interconnectedness and interdependence of international interests.
The organization stresses that the geographical distance of the United States from the region cannot serve as a safeguard against the consequences of escalation, as the effects of wars and conflicts are no longer confined within specific geographic borders, but rather transcend them politically, economically, and in terms of security.
Accordingly, “Insan” calls for the following:
- The immediate cessation of U.S.-Israeli attacks.
- Adherence to international charters and laws within the framework of the United Nations, and the adoption of dialogue and peaceful means to resolve disputes.
- The opening of independent investigations into violations committed against civilians, and holding those responsible accountable.
- Urgent international action to ensure the protection of civilians and to prevent the region from sliding into further escalation.
Protecting civilians, respecting state sovereignty, and adhering to international law constitute fundamental pillars for safeguarding international peace and security, and any breach thereof threatens the entire international order.
