The Government Media Office in Gaza announced that the number of journalists killed since the beginning of the genocidal war in October has risen to 240, following the death of photojournalist Khaled Muhammad Al-Madhoon, who worked for Palestine TV.
In an official statement on Saturday, the office strongly condemned what it described as the “systematic targeting” of media workers by the Israeli occupation forces. It held Israel, along with the U.S. administration and several European countries — including the UK, Germany, and France — responsible for crimes of genocide and the assassination of journalists.
The statement called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and all organizations concerned with press freedom and human rights worldwide to denounce the ongoing assaults on Palestinian journalists and to take serious steps to pursue those responsible before international courts.
The Media Office noted that journalists in Gaza continue to carry out their work under extremely dangerous conditions, urging the international community to intervene immediately to stop the killings and assassinations of media professionals and to ensure their protection under international humanitarian law.
It extended condolences to the family of the martyr Khaled Al-Madhoon and to the wider Palestinian press community, wishing a speedy recovery to wounded journalists still receiving treatment for injuries sustained while covering events on the ground.
