The Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the airstrikes carried out by Israeli occupation forces on the evening of Sunday, July 6, 2025, targeting civilian facilities in Al-Hodeidah Governorate, western Yemen, in blatant violation of the rules of international humanitarian law.
According to the Israeli Minister of Defense, these attacks targeted the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Al-Salif, as well as the main power station in the Ras Kathib area. The strikes also hit the commercial vessel Galaxy Leader off Yemen’s western coast — all of which are strictly civilian facilities.
These actions constitute a direct breach of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, including the principles of distinction and proportionality, and the obligation to protect civilian objects during armed conflicts, as stipulated in the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocol I.
Insan warns of the serious implications of Israeli statements vowing to continue this aggressive approach, which signals a dangerous escalation that threatens civilian safety, places vital infrastructure and commercial vessels in the Red Sea at great risk, undermines international maritime security, and could drag the region into a large-scale regional war.
The organization calls for an urgent and impartial international investigation into these and previous attacks, and for legal accountability for those responsible.
It also urges the United Nations, the Security Council, and all relevant international bodies to uphold their legal and humanitarian responsibilities to protect the civilian population in Yemen from unlawful Israeli military actions.
