Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the series of airstrikes carried out by U.S. warplanes on Sunday, April 20, 2025. These strikes targeted several residential areas, including the “Farwah” popular market in the Shu’ub district of the capital, Sana’a, resulting in the deaths of twelve martyrs and injuries to thirty others. The attacks also caused severe damage to citizens’ homes, constituting a flagrant violation of the rules of international humanitarian law.
The organization also denounces the targeting of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs building at the Port of Hudaydah — a civilian service facility with no military significance — as well as strikes on several other governorates, including Sa’dah and Ma’rib. These acts reflect a dangerous escalation and a recurring pattern of aggression against civilian lives and infrastructure.
The official U.S. justifications for these actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the principles of international humanitarian law. These actions constitute a clear violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians during armed conflict and amount to an unlawful use of force that rises to the level of a war crime.
Insan Organization views the use of armed force in this context as a sign of contempt for international obligations and a direct threat to peace and stability.
Accordingly, the organization calls for an urgent and independent international investigation into these crimes, the prosecution of those responsible, and justice and compensation for the victims and their families. The organization also urges the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in stopping these violations and providing necessary protection for civilians in Yemen.
