The "Insan" Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the aggressive U.S. airstrikes targeting residential neighborhoods in the capital, Sana'a, which have resulted in the deaths of ten civilians, including women and children, and injured nine others, many of whom are in critical condition.
The organization considers these airstrikes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, including international human rights law, which prohibits the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, such as homes and hospitals.
These attacks constitute a war crime under Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, as they endanger innocent lives and destroy residential areas that pose no military threat.
The organization also denounces the statement by U.S. President Donald Trump announcing a direct military operation against areas controlled by the Sana'a government. It views this escalation as an unacceptable breach of international responsibility, including the U.S. obligation to promote peace in the Middle East.
In this context, "Insan" rejects in full the American rhetoric that shirks its declared commitments to peace and instead fuels a destructive war against the people and territory of Yemen, threatening to expand the conflict to the broader region.
Trump’s remarks regarding the use of "deadly force" against Yemen and the expansion of military operations in the region are alarming and could drag the entire region into further conflict and devastation.
"Insan" calls on the international community and humanitarian organizations to shoulder their responsibilities by immediately halting these airstrikes and urgently intervening to ensure the protection of civilians in Yemen.
We urge the United Nations to take concrete steps to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable and to protect the Yemeni people from further escalation.
