The Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms has received a horrifying report indicating that Al-Arif Billah Mosque in Jabal Habashi, Taiz Governorate, was deliberately set on fire by armed elements affiliated with the Islah Party. This attack was reportedly triggered by worshippers holding religious rituals in observance of Mid-Sha’ban Night.
The organization strongly condemns this criminal act, which violates all international conventions and human values, including Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 6 of the International Convention on the Prevention of Genocide, and Article 45 of the Yemeni Constitution. It calls for an urgent and impartial investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable. Additionally, the organization warns of the grave consequences that targeting places of worship could have on Yemen’s social fabric.
The organization reminds the international community that targeting mosques is not merely an “internal Yemeni affair” but rather a crime against humanity that threatens global peace. Remaining silent on such crimes only encourages their recurrence elsewhere and fuels hate speech, which contradicts the principles of the United Nations charters.
We urge all parties to exercise restraint and respect Yemenis' right to practice their religious rituals without intimidation. Religion belongs to God, and the homeland belongs to all.
