A young citizen from Hajjah Governorate left his home for Al-Mahrah Governorate in search of a livelihood, but his journey did not end with the long-awaited return. Instead, it ended in a horrific crime that sparked widespread shock and raised serious questions about security and respect for human dignity.
Days after his disappearance was reported, the body of citizen Mujahid Jabr was found last Thursday in a desert area of Shahn District, northeast of Al-Mahrah Governorate, after he had been killed and his vehicle stolen.
The gravity of the case does not stop at the crime itself. It was compounded by the burial of the body by security authorities without notifying or obtaining the consent of the victim’s family, despite their arrival in the governorate in search of him. This procedure constitutes a serious violation of the victim’s dignity and his family’s rights, and a breach of humanitarian and legal norms.
In this context, Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a grave violation of the right to life guaranteed under national laws and international conventions.
The organization also strongly denounced the burial of the body without the knowledge or consent of the family, considering it an unlawful act that obstructs the course of justice and undermines the principles of transparency and accountability.
Insan Organization called for:
Opening an urgent and independent investigation into the crime and the circumstances surrounding the victim’s disappearance.
Arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to justice without leniency.
Holding accountable the authorities that carried out the burial without consulting the family.
Enhancing protection of desert roads and ensuring the safety of travelers and workers.
The organization affirmed that justice is not achieved merely by identifying the perpetrators, but also by respecting the dignity of victims and the rights of their families, warning that any violations in this regard exacerbate the suffering of relatives and undermine trust in the concerned institutions.
