Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly and unequivocally condemns the U.S.–Israeli aggression that targeted a primary school in the city of Minab in southern Iran, in a horrific crime that—according to official statements—resulted in the martyrdom of 165 schoolgirls and the injury of dozens more.
Targeting an educational facility housing children is an act that shocks the human conscience and constitutes a blatant assault on children’s rights to life, security, and education. It represents a grave violation of fundamental humanitarian values and relevant international conventions.
Insan Organization affirms that this bombing, which struck a primary school presumed to be protected due to its civilian nature, constitutes a dangerous escalation and a serious breach of the rules of international humanitarian law. It reflects a flagrant disregard for civilian lives, particularly children, who are entitled to special protection during armed conflicts.
Under the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their 1977 Additional Protocols, schools and civilian objects are protected entities that must not be targeted under any circumstances. Failure to respect these principles elevates this crime to the level of a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, thereby requiring individual criminal accountability.
Accordingly, the organization calls for:
The opening of an independent and transparent international investigation into the circumstances surrounding the targeting of the school in Minab.
Holding all those responsible for ordering or carrying out this attack accountable.
Urgent action by the international community to halt the targeting of civilians and educational facilities.
Immediate protection for children and guarantees to prevent the recurrence of such crimes.
The silence of the international community in the face of attacks on schools and children threatens to undermine what remains of the international protection system and sends a dangerous message that innocent blood can be shed without accountability.
As we express our full solidarity with the victims’ families, we affirm that justice alone can provide them with redress and deter the repetition of such grave violations.
