The “Insan” Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian civilian detainees in the Gaza Strip, manifested in the detention of bodies, their torture, and the brutal execution of their owners, as revealed by the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
The organization affirms that these acts constitute blatant violations of the principles of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949. Article 27 of the Convention guarantees the protection of civilians from torture and cruel treatment, while Article 32 explicitly prohibits assaults on their physical and moral integrity, including arbitrary executions and enforced disappearances.
The organization further stresses that these violations extend to Palestinian prisoners as well, who are subjected to starvation, denial of medical care, and both physical and psychological torture — forming part of a systematic policy of extermination and abuse.
“Insan” also notes that the detention of bodies and the refusal to return them to their families represent a grave breach of international humanitarian norms, which safeguard the dignity of the deceased and the right of their relatives to know their fate.
The organization believes that the ongoing silence of the international community in the face of such Israeli violations — including crimes against prisoners — makes it complicit in these atrocities and emboldens the Israeli occupation to commit even more horrific acts against Palestinian civilians and detainees.
“Insan” calls on the international community to take urgent action to halt these violations, launch an immediate and independent international investigation, hold the perpetrators accountable, and ensure that human rights and medical organizations are enabled to document evidence and follow up on the rights of victims and detainees in accordance with international law.
