The Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms expresses its strong condemnation of the Israeli occupation authorities’ decision to extend the administrative detention of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya for an additional six months, without charge or fair trial — a clear violation of international humanitarian law and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

The organization affirms that the continuation of this detention constitutes a flagrant breach of Articles 9 and 14 of the ICCPR, which guarantee the individual’s right to liberty and security, prohibit arbitrary deprivation of freedom except through due legal process, and ensure the right to a public trial with full guarantees of defense.

The organization further asserts that administrative detention, as currently practiced by the Israeli occupation authorities, is an arbitrary measure that contravenes the principle prohibiting detention without trial and amounts to a form of collective punishment, contrary to the provisions of international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Insan also expresses its full solidarity with Dr. Abu Safiya’s family, who continue to endure severe psychological and humanitarian suffering due to this unlawful detention, and calls for his immediate and unconditional release.

Finally, the organization urges all UN bodies, particularly the Human Rights Council and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to urgently intervene to monitor the conditions of Dr. Abu Safiya’s detention and ensure that Israel upholds its legal obligations as an occupying power.
