With the strongest and most unequivocal condemnation, the Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms denounces the heinous Israeli crime that claimed the lives of five media professionals in Gaza, including Al Jazeera correspondents Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqah, cameramen Ibrahim Zahir and Mohammed Noufal, and journalist Mohammed Al-Khaldi, after they were targeted in front of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex while fulfilling their duty to reveal the truth to the world.
The organization affirms that targeting journalists while they are carrying out their mission of documenting facts and conveying the suffering of civilians constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, the provisions of the 1977 Geneva Conventions, and a direct assault on press freedom. It further exposes, yet again, the fragility of international rhetoric regarding the protection of journalists.
The Israeli occupation army’s admission of carrying out this criminal act is a disgrace to international humanitarian law, which has been reduced to mere ink on paper in the face of Israeli crimes overlooked by the international community.
The organization calls for an urgent and transparent international investigation to hold those responsible for this crime accountable and to ensure the protection of journalists working in conflict zones, stressing that silence in the face of such violations paves the way for further crimes against journalism and humanity.
