Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms received with deep shock and strong condemnation the news that Israeli occupation authorities have arrested prominent Palestinian journalist Nasser Al-Lahham, Director of Al Mayadeen TV’s office in the occupied Palestinian territories. This act constitutes a blatant assault on press freedom and continues a systematic policy targeting Palestinian journalists and media professionals who report the truth from the heart of the field.
Insan Organization considers this arrest a flagrant violation of all international conventions that guarantee freedom of opinion and expression, particularly Article (4), paragraph 3 of the International Convention on the Safety of Journalists and Other Media Professionals and Their Independence. It reflects the occupation's insistence on silencing the free Palestinian voice and restricting independent media institutions.
While expressing its full solidarity with colleague Nasser Al-Lahham and his family, the organization calls on Yemeni and Arab media outlets, human rights and humanitarian organizations, and all relevant bodies to condemn this crime, express their rejection of the targeting of journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories, and work to launch an active solidarity campaign to support this cause until his immediate release.
Insan Organization affirms that the ongoing targeting of journalists cannot be met with silence, and that protecting free speech in Palestine is a collective responsibility for all who believe in justice, freedom, and human rights.
