Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the unjust Israeli assault on the ship Madeleine, which was carrying peaceful international activists and supporters on a humanitarian mission to break the unlawful blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than 16 years.
The Israeli navy’s storming of the Madeleine in international waters—using excessive force and unidentified chemical substances against unarmed civilian activists—constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the law of the sea. It represents a serious infringement on the freedom of navigation and the safety of humanitarian missions. Furthermore, the forcible detention and transfer of the activists to the occupied port of Ashdod is a clear breach of the legal protections guaranteed to civilians in such circumstances.
This criminal act amounts to international kidnapping and state terrorism, reflecting the Israeli entity’s ongoing policy of repression and blatant disregard for international treaties and norms.
Insan Organization strongly denounces this illegal attack targeting civilian supporters carrying a humanitarian message to help the people of Gaza survive the ongoing siege and slow death.
The organization calls on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take immediate action to ensure the unconditional release of the detained activists and to hold the occupying power accountable for its repeated crimes against civilians and humanitarian vessels.
The organization affirms that the ongoing blockade on Gaza is a war crime under international law, and that the attack on the "Freedom Flotilla" is part of a systematic Israeli policy aimed at suppressing popular will and silencing voices of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Insan reiterates that the international community’s silence on the crimes of the occupation only encourages further violations. The organization demands an independent international investigation into the circumstances of the attack on the ship and the use of chemical substances, the imposition of sanctions on the Israeli occupation entity for its continuous human rights violations, the immediate lifting of the blockade on Gaza, and the opening of crossings to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
