Unjustified Aggression: Washington Violates The Hague and Geneva Conventions in Yemen

Condemnation | 29-03-2025

The Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the U.S. airstrikes that targeted the capital, Sana’a, as well as the governorates of Amran, Saada, Al-Jawf, Marib, and Al-Hudaydah, with more than 71 raids in less than 24 hours. These attacks resulted in casualties, including martyrs and wounded individuals, in addition to widespread destruction of civilian homes and property.

These attacks constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian law, particularly Article 25 of the 1907 Hague Convention, which prohibits the bombardment of unprotected cities, villages, and buildings. They also breach Article 8(2)(b)(4) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which criminalizes deliberate attacks carried out with the knowledge that they will cause excessive civilian casualties or significant damage to civilian property compared to the anticipated military gains.

The ongoing international silence, especially from regional states, regarding these serious violations encourages Washington to continue its aggressions, posing a threat to regional peace and security. Countries that overlook these crimes may find themselves in a similar situation in the future, exposed to the same violations being committed today in Yemen.

The Insan for Rights and Freedoms organization affirms its commitment to documenting these violations and pursuing all legal and international avenues to ensure justice for the victims.

It also calls on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take a firm stance against these crimes, exert pressure to halt U.S. aggression in Yemen, and initiate an international investigation to hold those responsible for these grave violations of international law accountable.
